August 3, 2012 – Dinner

Written by: Second Stomach

For dinner tonight, we settled on Thai Peacock, partially because we were walking in downtown, and also because it was highlighted on our tourist map. I was honestly really skeptical as I have this pre-conceived notion that anything on a tourist map may mean it’s a tourist trap. However, a quick look online at some reviews told me to put aside my skepticism and have an open mind.

Lizard, Purple Parrot, and I┬álocated Thai Peacock relatively easily and walked in without any problems getting a table as there weren’t many people tonight. My skepticism was creeping in again because it’s a friday night. It was also hot inside the restaurant due to the weather – so I told myself to put aside my skepticism and accept that people weren’t dining at this time┬ábecause it was too hot.

For dinner tonight, we selected:

Cashew Chicken

Panang Curry with Seafood

Pumpkin Curry with Chicken

Cashew Chicken – $9.50

– This was Lizard’s choice. I really liked the colorful presentation.

– It was an interesting but satisfying blend of flavors – including sweet, savory, and spicy. This was a very flavorful red curry and my only criticism is that the chicken was a bit overcooked.

Panang Curry with Seafood – $13.50

Purple Parrot chose this dish. I didn’t taste very much of it but the taste I got was very flavorful. I think Purple Parrot was very pleased with it as well.

Pumpkin Curry with Chicken – $10

– I chose this curry. It wasn’t on their regular menu and was written on the blackboard as one of their specialties. I recall reading about the pumpkin curry online so I had to try it for myself.

– The flavors were sweet and savory. Some of the pumpkin and chicken pieces were overcooked. However, this was a fantastic dish.

Our bill for the 3 of us tonight (including 2 glasses of a local Riesling):

Thai Peacock Restaurant was a wonderful find for us. We enjoyed the casual and intimate atmosphere and were very satisfied with our selections tonight. We were also very happy with our final bill. We’re so used to seeing tax on our bill so from our perspective, this was a great deal for dinner.

The good…

– Variety on menu

– Solid selections

The bad…

– Small restaurant
